5000 Litre Harlequin Home Harvest Direct Rainwater System
    W

5000 Litre Harlequin Home Harvest Direct Rainwater System

    Availability Approx 6+ Weeks
    Price £P.O.A

This 1500-litre ‘Home Harvest Gravity’ rainwater harvesting system is ideal for efficient collection, storage and distribution of rainwater to be used during periods of water scarcity. It allows the connection of a hose to the pump within the tank to provide recycled rainwater for irrigating lawns/gardens, car washing and other outdoor water needs.

Moulded in one piece from Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE), this seamless non-corrosive tank with a strong body, an adjustable turret and a calmed inlet can be installed very easily and reduce water costs by 50%. The system complies with BS8515 Rainwater Harvesting Code of Practice and Part G of Building Regulations in U.K.

It comes equipped with a rainwater distribution unit called the ‘Rain Director’ and a smart header tank. The ‘Rain Director’ system pumps rainwater from the storage tank to a header tank where gravity distributes it to the required water appliances such as toilets, washing machines and the garden, minimising on/off pump cycling reducing electrical costs and wear on the pump. Once rainwater has been exhausted, the unit replenishes the storage tank with mains water.

Reduce Water Costs – Collecting and reusing rainwater can save up to 50% of metered water costs.

Easy Installation – Our shallow tanks only require a shallow excavation with no concrete backfill, this also reduces your installation costs.

Non-Corrosive – Manufactured from Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE), Harlequin tanks will not corrode.

Adjustable Turret – 4500 and 6000 model turrets have the ability to be extended or reduced to fit each installation.

Strong Tank Body – A seamless one piece moulded tank guarantees strength. There is a flat base for stability, moulded in lifting points and a flat load-bearing lid.

Legislation Compliant – The system complies with BS8515 Rainwater Harvesting Code of Practice and Building Regulations (Part G).

Calmed Inlet – This reduces the turbulence to tank sediment, improving the quality of water supplied.

    Rainwater Collection

    Efficient Rainwater Harvesting & Storage

For many domestic, commercial and industrial enterprises, rainwater harvesting has become an important part of daily operations. Simple water butts have been around for a long time, but the need for an onsite modern rainwater collection tank has only increased in recent years.

There are a number of situations where a rainwater collection tank, or a more complex rainwater harvesting system, can be a real benefit. Rainwater collection is typically practiced in rural locations where access to water mains is limited, or where water consumption is such that constant mains use wouldn’t be economical. It is also important in those areas of the country that have seen drought during summer months. Having a suitable rainwater storage tank on your property that has been filled in wetter months, means having access to a supply of water that can be used for everything from washing the car and watering the garden to flushing the toilet with the appropriate systems in place.

Finally, rainwater harvesting is a great way to practice a more environmentally friendly approach to business, something that is only becoming more of a pressing concern as time goes on. At Northern Tank Store, we stock everything from smaller 425-litre tanks right up to advanced rainwater collection systems that can store nearly 6000 litres. We source our products from top brands and manufacturers, and many also come with free delivery.

    How Does Rainwater Harvesting Work?

Rainwater harvesting is of course a quite simple principle, basically involving a large collection tank beneath a wide turret or opening for the collection of rainwater as it falls. Because many rainwater collection tanks and systems are essentially water tanks, the products on offer at Northern Tank Store are designed to be used for this purpose too.

Rainwater harvesting typically takes place in wetter months (which for most places in the UK, could be all year round) and the tank serves as a water store with checks against evaporation during dryer months. Because rainwater harvesting is especially useful in southern regions where there is the chance of drought, it is important that no collected rainwater is lost when the weather is hot.

What Kind of Rainwater Collection Tank Do I Need?

The type and size of rainwater collection system you require will naturally depend upon what application you have in mind, and the size of your property. Many systems include shallow tanks which help to minimise the required excavation for easier installation. Tanks are typically constructed from highly durable plastics such as MDPE to provide many years of corrosion free, low maintenance service.

Our smaller water storage tanks are also designed to be portable and are, up to a certain volume threshold, suitable also for transportation. If you expect to be travelling to and from your site, this might be the best solution for rainwater collection. If you need to collect, store, and use a lot of water for an extended period of time, then one of the larger garden harvesting tanks will be more suitable.

    Is Rainwater Collection Legal?

The collection of rainwater that falls on your property is perfectly legal in the UK. In fact, it is something that is often encouraged by water companies as it can help to ease the strain on mains water supply at drier times of the year.

If you are planning on installing a rainwater collection system, and particularly a larger scale harvesting solution, there are however a few regulations to be aware of. While not legally binding, British Standards BS EN 16941-1:0218 outlines a recommended code of practice for rainwater harvesting systems, and relates to the design, installation and maintenance of non potable systems.

There may also be building regulations that apply to your installation, specifically Part G which relates to sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency, and Part H which covers drainage and water disposal. The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) also has regulations that govern the kinds of valves, fittings and equipment that can be used in certain water systems in order to avoid non potable water from entering the mains supply, which may be relevant depending on the type of system and setup you are planning to install.
