Potable Water Tanks
A potable water tank, also known as a drinking water tank, is designed to store and dispense clean drinking water as required. As these tanks store water for human consumption, it’s vital that they meet certain conditions to be considered safe. Here you can find a wide range of potable tanks in a comprehensive choice of sizes, all fully compliant with relevant regulations.
Plastic Drinking Water Storage Tanks
Potable water tanks are typically constructed from high quality, UV stabilised MDPE. In structure, these tanks do not differ significantly from ordinary water tanks, with the main difference being in the composition of the materials and the various safety standards that a tank containing water for human consumption must adhere to.
Potable water tanks are useful for a wide range of applications, wherever a source of drinking water is required at a location where access to mains water is limited or unavailable. This could be anything from a rural residency without running water or a commercial or work site where the water supply is similarly unavailable or insufficient to support the workforce. We supply a full choice of potable water tanks in a wide variety of capacities, from small to large potable water tanks, as well as potable bowsers suitable for transport, and are happy to advise on which option is right for your needs..
What Kind of Potable Water Do I Need?
What kind of potable water tank you require depends on your intended use for the tank. Specifically, you should consider how many individual people the tank will serve, as well as for how long access will be required. With these two parameters considered, you can select the correct capacity from our wide selection. We stock tanks in capacities ranging from small and convenient 1-100 litre potable tanks, up to large potable water tanks able to store almost 10,000 litres. As you might expect, our smaller tanks are perfect for transport whereas our largest tanks are more suited to the semi-permanent installation at a site.
As they contain a non-harmful substance, but one which must be kept secure from contamination in all instances, potable water tanks prioritise ease of access and cleanliness. Our tanks can all be connected to fittings and pipework in order to create a semi-permanent supply of water at a site. They can also be connected to a valve tap to allow the easy and secure drawing of water at the tank itself.
All of our potable water tanks are composed of plastic, specifically high-grade medium density polyethylene, which is the preferred material where water purity and protection from contamination is a pressing concern.
What is the Difference Between a Potable and Non-Potable Water Tank?
On the face of it, potable water tanks do not look much different from other water tanks. They are both normally single-skin plastic tanks. The difference between the two is in the plastic composition used and the various structural features which prevent contamination.
It is the kind of plastic used to line the inside of the tank that is most important. In non-potable tanks, the inside lining is composed of a porous plastic that could collect bacteria and thereby infect the water. Potable water tanks instead use a completely nonporous plastic that also does not leach any contaminants into the water. This also makes them easier to clean.
Fully Compliant Potable Water Tanks
Our potable water tanks conform to all the safety regulations that govern the manufacture of all the tanks on offer at Northern Tank Store. Our potable water tanks are CE marked, which means they conform to strict ISO regulations, have been thoroughly inspected for defects, and have passed all the relevant pneumatic pressure tests.
However, potable water tanks must also conform to the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS), which acts as a guarantee that the water is safe for drinking. You can be assured that all of our potable water tanks meet this legal requirement.
