Benefits of Plastic Single Skin Tanks

Plastic fuel storage tanks are manufactured from medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) which can offer some advantages compared to equivalent steel single skin oil tanks. As an insulating material, polyethylene provides a certain amount of protection from external heat. This means plastic tanks are less prone to condensation forming inside the tank, which in turn helps keep the fuel in its original condition.

Steel and plastic both offer their own advantages however, and it’s worth comparing steel and plastic tanks to identify which is best suited to your requirements.

Our plastic tanks are UV stabilised and are highly resistant to the sun's damaging, ultraviolet rays. On average, a plastic fuel tank should provide between fifteen and twenty years of reliable service. At the end of its useful life, a plastic MDPE tank can be recycled.

Versatile Shapes & Sizes

Single skin tanks made of plastic usually offer an extensive choice of designs. MDPE is easy to work with, enabling engineers to construct complex shapes. We stock a variety of plastic tanks including low profile single skin tanks, slimline tanks, and large horizontal tanks in addition to the more traditional upright, cylindrical shaped options.

Each tank is rotationally moulded in one complete piece which eradicates vulnerable seams and the risk of unexpected leaks. Pre-moulded plastic tanks generally have a high resistance to impacts, and many of the designs include moulded access points for easy lifting via fork lift trucks. The capacities of the tanks generally range from 1,150 litres to 20,000 litres.

Single skin tanks are generally a reliable and cost effective fuel storage option. However we also offer a comprehensive range of plastic bunded oil tanks for added security and protection from leaks.

Essential Features of Plastic Single Skin Tanks

Plastic fuel storage tanks have a full complement of useful features including wide, easy accessible fill points. Inspection ports allow checks to be made easily and include lids that safely lock.

Many tanks feature manual float gauges for checking the level of oil. Others include computerised gauges that set off an alarm if the oil drops below a predetermined level. Some models include both types.

Fitting kits are usually supplied with a ball valve, adapter and a filter; we also stock a full range of heating oil tank accessories to ensure you can install and use your tank as needed. Plastic tanks are compatible with all types of oil, diesel, kerosene and HVO.
