    Fuel Bowsers

    Portable Fuel Storage & Dispensing

Using a bowser, an enterprise such as a construction company can tow a large amount of fuel to a work site and then transport it again as needed. Here you can find one of the widest range of fuel and diesel bowsers in the UK. We work with leading brands to offer fuel storage solutions that deliver the best combination of features, performance, value and reliability.

Many of the fuel bowsers available at Northern Tank Store are combined storage and dispensing tanks, which means that once transported to site, the tank can be used to efficiently refuel equipment or vehicles as required. Tanks are available in a range of sizes, and include road legal tow bowsers which are attached as a trailer to a vehicle, as well as site tow bowsers and fixed skid bowsers which can be transported via wagon, trailer or other suitable vehicle.

What Kind of Bowser Do I Need?

Unlike stationary tanks, bowsers are designed to be portable and, therefore, adaptable to a variety of settings. What type of bowser you should get depends on a number of factors, including how much fuel you typically need to store and transport, how you wish to transport the fuel, as well as what safety concerns your particular enterprise typically involves.

Due to their intended versatility of use, most of our bowsers are bunded, which means the fuel is stored in an inner chamber within the tank itself. This is a safety feature that not only prevents spillage and leakage but allows the tank to be moved around without any fear of damage.

Bunded oil tanks offer a range of benefits over single-skinned tanks, and all of our bowsers over a certain size threshold are bunded.

The Bowsers on offer at Northern Tank Store are both steel and plastic models – and each comes with its own set of specific benefits. Steel bowsers offer extra protection against theft. Steel tanks are also usually heavier but, mounted on a durable chassis as many of our larger steel bowsers are, you should have no trouble transporting it from site to site. Plastic bowsers are more lightweight and thus easier to install.

    Fuel Bowser Tank Sizes

Our range of fuel bowsers spans from smaller 200-litre models all the way up to 3,000-litre legal tow models for supplying and transporting large amounts of fuel between locations. What tank size is right for you naturally depends upon the intended use of your tank.

If you are at all unsure about what type of tank you need, feel free to contact our team, who will be more than happy to help you. We have many decades of experience providing all manner of heating oil tanks, fuel storage solutions, and water tanks to the UK market. We can help you find the best solution for your needs and also make sure your fuel tank meets all necessary legal regulations and safety requirements.

    Regulation Compliant Fuel Bowsers

It is a legal requirement that all fuel tanks – bowsers or otherwise – are bunded if they are above threshold volume. The portability of bowser tanks however means that installation safety requirements are not so often a concern. Nevertheless, should you decide to install one at a location for a prolonged period of time, we can advise you so as to make sure your tank is installed properly.

An important safety concern, specific to bowser tanks, relates to towing. Although fixed to a durable steel chassis, it is illegal to tow these tanks on the motorway. For this reason, it is preferable to load them into a van if they are to travel long distances.

All of the tanks we supply meet applicable regulations and manufacturing standards, including Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) Regulations (2001) (England and Wales) (N. Ireland 2010), Water Environment (Oil Storage) Regulations (206) (Scotland), BS EN 10025 for steel models, UN1202 for road haulage, BS799 part 5, Directive 2007/46/E and ADR approval where size dictates.
